X-Head BMW Cylinder Guards For All R1200 LC models

We all know it – our exposed cylinder heads face ride-ending damage on every ride. Even on the 1200 GS Adventure models, a simple drop can punch a hole into your head. Not only can this lead to expensive repairs, but you could also be stuck in the middle of nowhere with an engine without oil. Even if you can patch the hole, you might not have enough oil to make it back without overheating the engine. The best solution is to be properly protected in the first place.

These guards are just what you need – with their blend of high impact strength, temperature and UV stabilization, the injection-moulded shells are designed to be slightly flexible in impacts, to absorb some of the energy from an impact. On the inside of the shell is a thermoplastic rubber liner that rests against the face of the cylinder to aid in dissipating impact force while preventing hard contact. Each side mounts via 2 stainless steel M5 T25 Torx Head fasteners and the original T50 bolt.

These guards protect approximately 80% of the face of the head to protect not only the bottom/front initial impact area but also the mid part of the cylinder head. E

They are styled to complement the liquid-cooled (2014 to 2018) models/

The guards have been successfully fitted with crash bars made by BMW and Alt Rider.

Installation with crash bars: To install X-Heads on R1200 GS/A already fitted with crash bars – they will have to be removed to provide enough working room for installation.

It is recommended that fitment is done by a qualified BMW technician.

If your bars are already bent in and put any pressure on the guards, they can cause an oil leak. In such cases, we recommend replacing your bars or fitting shims that can space the bars appropriately.
