For the liquid-cooled 1200’s, 1250’s and the 750 and 850 BMW models, a protection plate is recommended to block heat from the exhaust and protect your soft panniers from being burnt. This is because the pannier rack bends around the exhaust, allowing bags to sit very close to the exhaust.
There are many plates available on the market but most of them bend with the pannier rack which defeats the point a little. This plate is made by Turkana Gear and has a 90 degree bend.
