Crash bars are the first thing most GS owners bolt on, and the first place people buy the wrong part. The GS family looks alike from across a car park. Up close, the frames are not the same. Here is how fitment splits.
R 1300 GS (2024 on)
New frame, new engine, new everything. Bars made for the R 1250 GS will not fit. Only buy bars listed for the R 1300 GS. See everything for the R 1300 GS.
R 1250 GS (2019 to 2023) and R 1200 GS LC (2013 to 2018)
The water-cooled boxers share most of their mounting points, so a lot of crash bars are made to fit both. “A lot” is doing some work in that sentence: always check that the listing names your exact model and years. R 1250 GS accessories · R 1200 GS LC accessories.
The GSA versions
The Adventure has a bigger tank and different bodywork, so upper bars made for the standard GS generally won’t fit a GSA, and the other way round. Many GSAs also left the factory with protection bars already fitted, so check what is on yours before you buy. R 1250 GSA accessories.
R 1200 GS air-cooled (2004 to 2013)
Older frame, different bars. A listing that just says “fits R 1200 GS” is not enough: ask which generation. R 1200 GS AC accessories.
F 750 GS and F 850 GS (2018 on)
These two share a chassis, so plenty of protection fits both. The older F 650, F 700 and F 800 GS twins are a separate family with their own parts. F 850 GS · F 750 GS · F 650 / 700 / 800 GS.
G 310 GS
Small bike, its own parts. Nothing from the big boxers fits. G 310 GS accessories.
